This weeks walk has been organised by Mark Baillie, who writes:
I’ve confirmed with Beryl Suitor to expect our group on Thursday 16th May between approximately 1.00pm and 1.30pm. Arrangements similar to those previously circulated, that is:
“We will meet at 10:30 am at the Lower Car Park for Knockmany Forest, close to the lower of the two marked car parks on the attached map, that is, close to Grid Ref 539546. You get there by driving along the main road from Ballygawley to Augher, and then turning right at the mini-roundabout on the main road at Augher.
If it’s not too wet, I’ll suggest doing a variant of the walk called “Knockmany on the Wild Side”, which makes the walk slightly longer and a little more interesting for those who prefer to stray off the marked forest paths! The total length of the walk is about 5 miles and should take between 2 and 3 hours depending on how fast we go.
We’ll have coffee around 12:00 at the tomb. I’ll try to remember to bring the key in case there’s anyone on the walk who might like to look inside.
I’ve arranged with Beryl Suitor (Suitor Gallery, Ballygawley), that she should expect between approximately 10 and 15 of us for coffee and light refreshments at the Suitor Gallery between approximately 1.00pm and 1.30pm. I can confirm numbers and estimated time on the day.
Finally, Knockmany is a great place for people to walk with their dogs, so please note that well-behaved dogs are welcome! It’s usually quite all right for them to roam off the lead during the walk. I’ll probably be bringing our dog Lottie.”
